July 5, 2008 - I haven't posted a photo of Lenore and Brutus for a couple of days, and they have been missed, judging from my e-mail. Thought it would be appropriate to greet people after the holiday weekend. The first thing Lenore does now when we go sheepherding is run up to find Brutus and give him a nuzzle or lick. He waits for her, and stands still until she arrives.
If she isn't there, he looks for her. It seemed strange at first, but now is quite lovely.
If Rose notices this anymore, she doesn't show it, and it has simply become another part of our ritual. Emma and I are taking photos together, and going for long walks with Pearl, Rose, Izzy and Lenore, and the four of them are like an old family now, and Lenore and Pearl seem to have bonded, although Lenore would bond with a tree if she hung around one.
The rains have eased my grass crisis a bit, but we are still grazing regularly, and I hope to do some serious work on my book about Rose and the soul of animals. Mary Kellogg will be at Borders in Saratoga at 7 p.m., July 10, reading from her new book of poetry, "My Place On Earth," and so will I, and Izzy and Lenore.
